How to Care for Your Rainwear

Over time, waterproof jackets will lose their resilience, allowing water to penetrate through the jacket's surface. Good news, by cleaning and re-waterproofing your rainwear jacket, your jacket will be ready to go on wet weather adventures in no time.

TIPS FOR CLEAINING YOUR RAIN JACKET

PRE-WASH INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Remove excess dirt: Clean dirt and mud off the jacket's surface. Dirt has the ability to attract water, covering the water-repellent coating - causing the jacket's surface to absorb water.
  • Close zippers and check pockets: Before placing your rain jacket into the wash, ensure all zippers and Velcro straps are closed, as well as loosening the elastic tensions. Check all pockets for any adventure memorabilia which you may have left behind from your last adventure.

MACHINE WASH:

  • Check the wash care label: Refer to the wash care label for any specific cleaning instructions from the manufacturer.
  • Use Nikwax Tech Wash: Using normal household detergents can cause a rain jacket to deteriorate over time. Nikwax Tech Wash, a technical cleaner designed for wet weather clothing and equipment, revives breathability and restores the water-repellency of your jacket.

TUMBLE DRY:

Place your rain jacket in the tumble dryer on a low heat for 15 minute intervals. Please note this process can take up to 40 minutes, depending on your rain jacket type.

HOW TO USE NIKWAX TECH WASH:

  • Remove all detergent build-up from the detergent dispenser
  • Place items in washing machine (maximum of 2 items at a time)
  • Use 100 – 150ml of Nikwax Tech Wash for 1-2 items. Add to the detergent dispenser
  • Wash rain jacket according to wash care label instructions
