A Story of Discovery

I discovered this pool by following a riverbed in the rural Windhoek area at 5:30 AM after a downpour the previous night.

Most of the time I do straight-line running, following cattle paths, old gravel roads and riverbeds. In some areas that I run, I would be the only person in that area for months. I encounter kudu, warthog, caracal baboon, dik diki, jackal, pofadder and have also spotted leopard tracks but never encountered one face to face.

My running partner is my dog Apple -“Boer Windhond”, a special South African Greyhound breed used in rural areas to control jackal and leopard. Apple is trained only to protect and will not harm any wildlife if not commanded to do so explicitly. This shot was taken by accident trying to capture a shot of Apple in the water.

For me, the most difficult paths lead to the best places in nature as is the case in life, and I compete against no one except myself. When you chase other people’s barriers you will end up not moving yours.

I hardly use any other products than First Ascent. I use these products because of their fit and durability. Quality over price – always.
