Tsitsikamma Waterfall Day Hiking Trail

The silent forest backdrop makes the Tsitsikamma Waterfall trail the ideal hike for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the rat race. It also comprises the first +-3km of the world-renowned Otter trail.

Located near Kou-Kamma in the Eastern Cape, it features an impressive forst backdrop that is home to some amazing fauna and flora.

Hikers have been known to spot some indigenous wildlife, such as the African Black Oystercatcher, which is known to be one of South Africa’s most threatened bird species. Be sure to also keep your eyes and ears perked to spot a glimpse of the Cape Clawless Otter, which is said to be the source of the name of the ever-popular Otter trail.

This relatively short hike is listed as moderate to difficult, so ensure you’re fully prepared with the correct gear and clothing, as well as quick-drying apparel should you wish to take a cool-off dip in the waterfall pool. This location is ideal as a picnic spot, so bring along healthy snacks to enjoy while you take in the many sights and sounds.
