I am a normal guy with an abnormal passion for big mountains and nature in general. I live to enjoy life as much as possible and trail running certainly enables this. I have been active in the outdoors all my life, however I ran my first trail race in 2013. It was the 22km Two Oceans Trail run…it broke me but I was hooked! Three years later, at an age of 23, I experienced the best day of my life when I completed Ultra Trail Cape Town 100km. Since then Ultra trail running has since been a big focus in my life and I am constantly thinking of ways to explore further, run further and have more fun.
How I train:
In general, I train by spending as much time in the mountains as possible, whether it is a 4hour run, 10hour speed-hike or a multi-day hike. I try and focus more on the amount of time spent on my legs on technical terrain getting vertical mileage in than running x-amount of km’s per week. I do however enjoy running road races too and I believe that quality training on the road is a very valuable aspect of any form of running. Most importantly and above everything else I train and race in such a way that there is always a big smile on my face. Enjoyment is key!
