No ‘E’ for Robby this year

Last month we reported that First Ascent sponsored mountaineer Robby Kojetin was off to Everest to ‘Climb high for those who can’t’, and raise funds for the Cancer Association of South Africa.

With all preparations made and logistics confirmed, tragedy struck, not in the form of a crevasse or avalanche, but in the form of unrest in Tibet… something no reasonable scenario planner could be expected to plan for!

The Chinese government placed an embargo on all foreigners entering or exiting the country which left Robby and his team stranded in sunny SA with 3 month’s worth of holiday to look forward to.

Naturally this is a huge disappointment, but this setback certainly hasn’t discouraged Robby and his objectives, if anything, he has become more determined to see this project through and has already confirmed his name on the list for taking on Everest in 2009.
