First Ascent - Performance Testing

Performance Testing

Player: Correne Erasmus-Coetzer lives in Stellenbosch, South Africa. She is an ex-teacher who likes to be outdoors and love to travel to remote places.

Missions:  Correne is always up for an unusual challenge.  Her greatest achievement to date was being the first South African female to walk to the South Pole.  The distance of 1200km (on skiis) and the extreme temperatures of between -3C to -50C for 54 days was no easy task.  Kept warm in First Ascent gear she managed to brave the low temperatures, stick her head down and in doing so make history!

Previous Expeditions:  Correne has braved the cold on numerous occasions and has accomplished the following over the past 5 years:

Ski Expedition career:

· 2001 December: Ski last degree of latitude to the South Pole (110 km). Becoming the first South African and African woman to do so.

· 2002 April: Ski last degree of latitude to the North Pole (110 km). Becoming the first South African and African woman to do so.

· 2006 March: Solo, unsupported ski crossing of the frozen Great Slave Lake in Canada. Becoming the first person in recorded history to do so.

· 2006 November – 2007 January: Ski and walk from the coast of Antarctica (Hercules Inlet, 80°S) to the South Pole (90°S); 1 200 km. Becoming the first South African and African woman to do so.

Gear: Correne is proudly sponsored by First Ascent
